Why does recycling old TVs cost money?

Properly disposing of the hazardous materials inside the tubes of the TVs is costly and is performed at specialized facilities. We are charged to drop off the TVs to be recycled, so we have to charge for the service as well. We don’t mark-up this service to make money (we keep our prices competitive) we’re just simply passing on the charges that we incur.

How can I tell what type of TV I have?

There are three general categories of TVs. See them below to see which of your TV’s is most similar.

CRT “Tube TVs”  ($30 or $50 Depending on Size)

Projection ($35 any size)

Flat panel (LCD, Plasma, LED, etc.) ($10 Each To Recycle)

Will someone be there to help me unload?

Yes, we’ll be glad to help. We appreciate if you contact us beforehand to let us know you’re coming, but that’s optional.

If you have a large load of items (more than can fit in the back seat or trunk of a car), we need to make sure the right number of staff are on hand to help unload in a timely manner. Please let us know when you plan to drop off your items via our web chat (the green button on the bottom left of every page) or or contact us via our contact page.

Do you offer residential pickups?

Yes. Please call us at 636-778-9659 ext. 205 to request a pickup.

Pickup fee is charged based on location. Pickup fee does not include recycling charges.

You’re also welcome to drop off items at our retail store in the Chesterfield Valley. That will save you the pickup fee, but items that have a cost will be the same price.

Will things I give to you be resold?

Mostly, no. Most items turned in for recycling have little to no value and are broken down for their component parts and sent to our recycling partners.

Any type of data storage is securely erased or destroyed. We never sell any item containing customer data. Read more about that process here.

If the item has value and can be repaired to be in like-new condition, we will refurbish it for resale. Read more about that process here.

How much money will I make from items I turn in?

There’s no exact catch-all answer. Every item is different.

Prices of electronics change rapidly based on their resale values. We’re listing items for sale daily, so we have a strong grasp of what’s worth money and what’s not. We’ve also all been around technology for a long time and are really good at knowing an item’s age.

When we tell you the item is worth something, you can know that we’re speaking from experience, and we’ll always be up-front and honest. We’ll offer varying amounts for different items, but we’re always fair in the amounts we offer. We’re also willing to explain why things are not worth money.

What are alternatives to paying the pickup fee for large or heavy items?

We accept recycling drop-offs during our business hours. If you have a large or heavy item, please call ahead to let us know to make sure we’ll be able to help you unload it.

Most items are free but there are some exceptions. Click here to see a list of items and their charges for recycling.

Ideas for Transporting Large or Heavy Items

If you’re not to keen on paying our pickup fee, there are other ways to having us come pick it up.

  • Rent a truck from a hardware store or truck rental service. Be sure to secure the items if you’re taking the highway!
  • Ask a friend, relative, or neighbor with a truck to help you. The worst they can say is no.

Remember to lift with your knees and not your back! If you bring it to us, we’ll do the rest and keep our landfills free of harmful waste!

Where can I take my appliances for recycling?

Since we do not accept appliances for recycling, we suggest getting in touch with the providers listed on the St. Louis County website by clicking here.

Data Destruction

How does on-site data destruction work?

The short version: our guys come to your place of business, bring the hard drive shredder, remove data storage devices, and put them in the shredder with a video camera running for proof of destruction.

The longer version:

What is your process for refurbishing an item?

In short, we test the item to find out what is broken on the item, replace parts as needed. We then test the item once it’s repaired, and list it for sale.

How do you decide the value of items?

We’re experts in our field and list many items for sale every day, so we have a lot of resources for determining how much an item is worth.

We also have a firm grasp of the costs associated with getting an item to market, so we’re always keeping those in mind.

You’re welcome to send us a list of the items you have and we’ll let you know if any of the items have value. The more specific the information we’re given, the better estimate you’ll receive of that items worth.

What is your warranty on products you sell?

Any item purchased in our online store or in our retail store has a 90 day warranty.

Any item purchased via eBay has a 30 day warranty unless specified that no returns are offered on that particular item.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept Credit Cards in our retail store and online: American Express, Mastercard, Discover, and Visa

We accept Cash for in store purchases.

We also process online payments with Paypal for eBay.

If you don’t currently have something I want, can you let me know when you receive it?

Yes, indeed we can. Contact us using our web chat (on the bottom left of every page) or contact us via our contact page and let us know what you’re looking for. We’ll add you to our list and notify you when we receive the item.

If more than one person requests the item, we notify each customer in the order we received their request. They have 24 hours to respond before the next person in the list is notified. First come, first served.

Do you offer repair services?

We don’t offer drop-off repair service like a typical computer repair store. We might be able to repair simple issues while you wait, it just depends.

We also occasionally perform repairs or upgrades on equipment that we’ve sold via our retail or online stores if and when the need arises.

All in all, we aim to help you however we can. You can count on us to provide you with advice based on our decades of technology experience. Basically that means that we’re not always trying to sell you something or make a buck however we can. Our aim is to help however possible and do our best to make sure you’re happy.

I love your business and I want to help you grow. What’s the best way for me to help?

Referrals are our favorite. Send your friends and family our way and we’ll take good care of them.

You can also leave us a nice review on Facebook or Google.

Also, we’re always in search of more businesses to pick up items from. If someone you know has a business with IT gear marked for liquidation or sale, contact us and let us know.

How long have you been in business?

Red Leaf’s parent company JLMG Enterprises was incorporated Feb 2012.

Red Leaf began operations later that same year.

We moved into the 680 Crown building in October of 2016.

Where did the name Red Leaf come from?

The “Red Leaf” name symbolizes the life cycle of IT equipment. The red leaves of autumn signify a change of season, which is similar to the recycling process we offer to our customers.

As the leaves are recycled back into the Earth, we should also recycle and or reuse the electronics that are discarded on a daily basis.
