Recycling

Stay Green

We no longer offer residential pickups. If you are a business and need to have some items picked up, feel free to give us a call at (636) 778 – 9658 or contact us via our contact page.

As a business, you are also welcome to drop off items at our warehouse, with a scheduled appointment, located in Maryland Heights. That will save you the pickup fee, but items that have a cost will be the same price.

There’s no exact catch-all answer. Every item is different.

Prices of electronics change rapidly based on their resale values. We’re listing items for sale daily, so we have a strong grasp of what’s worth money and what’s not. We’ve also all been around technology for a long time and are really good at knowing an item’s age.

When we tell you the item is worth something, you can know that we’re speaking from experience, and we’ll always be up-front and honest. We’ll offer varying amounts for different items, but we’re always fair in the amounts we offer. We’re also willing to explain why things are not worth money.

Most often, some items have no recycling fees, but there are a few exceptions. The items that have a cost to recycle are listed on this page: Red Leaf IT Electronic Recycling Guide (redleafasset.com)

If the item you want to drop off isn’t in the list, please feel free to contact us via our contact page.

We no longer take CRT TV’s and CRT Monitors. If you need a place to recycle these, you can check the St. Louis County Website for more places that recycle electronics: Electronic Recycling – St. Louis County Website (stlouiscountymo.gov) Unfortunately, no one takes them for free, there will be fees associated with these types of electronics.

We accept recycling drop-offs during our business hours. If you have a large or heavy item, please call ahead to let us know to make sure we’ll be able to help you unload it.

Most items are free but there are some exceptions. Click here to see a list of items and their charges for recycling.

Ideas for Transporting Large or Heavy Items

If you’re not to keen on paying our pickup fee, there are other ways to having us come pick it up.

  • Rent a truck from a hardware store or truck rental service. Be sure to secure the items if you’re taking the highway!
  • Ask a friend, relative, or neighbor with a truck to help you. The worst they can say is no.

Remember to lift with your knees and not your back! If you bring it to us, we’ll do the rest and keep our landfills free of harmful waste!

Our current list of items we do and do not accept are located here: https://www.redleafasset.com/approved-list-gear-accept-for-recycling/

If the item you want to drop off isn’t in the list, please feel free to give us a call or contact us via our contact page.

Since we do not accept appliances for recycling, we suggest using the St. Louis County Recycle Wizard to determine where to take them: Recycle Wizard – St. Louis County Website (stlouiscountymo.gov)

Yes, we’ll be glad to help. We appreciate if you contact us beforehand to let us know you’re coming, but that’s optional.

If you have a large load of items (more than can fit in the back seat or trunk of a car), we need to make sure the right number of staff are on hand to help unload in a timely manner.

Mostly, no. Most items turned in for recycling have little to no value and are broken down for their component parts and sent to our recycling partners.

Any type of data storage is securely erased or destroyed. We never sell any item containing customer data. Read more about that process here.

Refurbishment

Repurposing Decommissioned Equipment

We’re experts in our field and list many items for sale every day, so we have a lot of resources for determining how much an item is worth.

We also have a firm grasp of the costs associated with getting an item to market, so we’re always keeping those in mind.

You’re welcome to send us a list of the items you have and we’ll let you know if any of the items have value. The more specific the information we’re given, the better estimate you’ll receive of that items worth.

In short, we test the item to find out what is broken on the item, replace parts as needed. We then test the item once it’s repaired, and list it for sale.

General Questions

General

We don’t offer drop-off repair service like a typical computer repair store. We might be able to repair simple issues while you wait, it just depends.

We also occasionally perform repairs or upgrades on equipment that we’ve sold via our retail or online stores if and when the need arises.

All in all, we aim to help you however we can. You can count on us to provide you with advice based on our decades of technology experience. Basically that means that we’re not always trying to sell you something or make a buck however we can. Our aim is to help however possible and do our best to make sure you’re happy.

Red Leaf’s parent company JLMG Enterprises was incorporated Feb 2012. Red Leaf began operations later that same year.

As the business grew, a bigger facility was needed, we moved into the Chesterfield, MO area in October of 2016.

Operations became bigger and a shift to B2B business meant that we needed an even bigger space. Red Leaf relocated to the Maryland Heights, MO area in December of 2020.

Referrals are our favorite. Send your friends and family our way and we’ll take good care of them.

You can also leave us a nice review on Google.

Also, we’re always in search of more businesses to pick up items from. If someone you know has a business with IT gear marked for liquidation or sale, contact us and let us know.

The “Red Leaf” name symbolizes the life cycle of IT equipment. The red leaves of autumn signify a change of season, which is similar to the recycling process we offer to our customers.

As the leaves are recycled back into the Earth, we should also recycle and or reuse the electronics that are discarded on a daily basis.
